Offering Incentives to Planners

There have been so many discussions on Linkedin professional groups in the past year about what to do and what not to do as we all live through this terrible time for the meetings and events industry. One of the topics has been whether or not to lower prices to entice business. It seems that the consenus has been that if you offer lower rates now for your services that you may never be able to bring them back up to pre-recession levels. However, we have seen vendors, such as hotels, spas, etc., definitely lowering their prices - and throwing in concessions, to boot.

Recently I have started offering my own recession incentive to planners I've contacted. My current offer is to off-set the higher price of my airfare compared to the average TDs airfare by taking the difference of the two airfare prices and dividing that number by the days spent on the program and being willing to have that final number deducted from my daily wage. It is my way of keeping my costs in line with the costs of other TDs without simply saying "I will work for less money". The message I believe I am sending is "my flight may cost more, but you can take the extra cost out of my daily wage".

I haven't received any comments yet in response to this offer I've sent out to planners I've worked with in the past, so I'm wondering if anybody on this Message Board would care to comment about whether this incentive seems a wise idea or not.

Advice anyone?
